Nirmala Sitharaman's Cabinet

About the committee

India is a land of many truths. The big corporations, the middle class and the poor all remain divided on perspectives and outlooks. The onus however, is on the government to weigh these demands and mitigate the clashes.

This year, Nirmala Sitharaman’s Cabinet convenes to tackle one of the most complex challenges — balancing public sector funding, private sector incentives, and subsidies while ensuring sustainable economic policies amidst escalating tariffs, and a growing uproar from the lower class; while balancing a decrease in government revenue resulting from lower taxation.

Serving as national ministers and industry leaders, delegates will deliberate on budgetary allocations, tax structures, and sectoral funding priorities in a time of political turmoil where the ruling government finds themselves in an ambiguous position, as made evident by the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

There are many questions. Should subsidies be rationalised for fiscal consolidation, or should they be expanded to drive social welfare? Should corporate tax rates be restructured to attract investment, or should progressive taxation be enforced to strengthen government revenues? Truly, this is a test of resilience and strategic thinking in the upper echelons of financial governance to determine India’s financial roadmap for the year ahead.

We look forward to strong discourse and deliberations on the future that lies ahead for India.
