OPEC
ORGANIZATION OF THE PETROLEUM EXPORTING COUNTRIES
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has long stood at the centre of the global energy landscape, with its immense influence over oil supply and prices, maintaining a delicate balance of economic power among its member states. This ability to coordinate production and stabilise markets has made it one of the most influential institutions in the modern economic order.
This stability, however, is now under severe strain. A large-scale cyberattack has crippled critical OPEC infrastructure, disabling systems that manage global shipping routes and disrupting the coordination of oil exports. As communication breaks down and logistics falter, supply chains begin to fragment, creating severe uncertainty across international markets. In response, non-OPEC producers move quickly to exploit the disruption and assert market dominance, offering alternative supply arrangements and intensifying competition.
Delegates will be tasked with navigating this rapidly evolving crisis, where decisions must be made with utmost caution and incomplete information. The challenge lies in restoring supply coordination and securing market shares, thereby safeguarding OPEC’s collective influence in an increasingly volatile environment. As the situation unfolds, strategic thinking and negotiation will be critical in determining whether stability can be re-established or further uncertainty takes hold.
